Insulation Consulting and procurement services bv Home

The company ICPS was formed in 1981 to act as a consultancy company in industrial thermal insulation for the Oil-, Gas- and Petrochemical industry with a specialization in cryogenic insulation. The company is owned by Robert van Ootmarsum, a man with more than 35 years worldwide experience both in product manufacture as well as in insulation design and engineering. ICPS’s clients include major oil companies such as SHELL and Exxon as well as prominent engineering companies like MWK, BECHTEL, CHIYODA and TECHNIP and reputable insulation manufacturers such as Owens Corning Fibreglass, Recticel, Divinycell and Aspen Aerogel.

Mr. van Ootmarsum has three patents in his name for Cold-storage tanks, of which one is jointly owned by Mr. Marco Monzeglio from the company TAGOS Srl. The innovations do away with the conventional materials of Cellular Glass and Perlite and the standard use of Carbon Steel as a vapor-barrier.

For piping and equipment ICPS developed and introduced new designs for Cold- and cryogenic insulation as well as for Pre-insulated pipe-supports and anchors for both Hot- and Cold-Cryogenic piping.

Notable achievements

  1. Developed and introduced an insulation system which can be repaired and/or maintained under cryogenic operating conditions, through the introduction of a secondary moisture/vapor barrier which has since become a world standard.
  2. Wrote the initial SHELL DEP 30.46.00.32-Gen for Cold- and dual-temperature services.
  3. Developed and introduced a new design of a Cold pipe-support fastening system which has become a world standard.
  4. Re-introduced PVC foam for bottom insulation of Cold-Cryogenic storage tanks for use in high seismic area’s.
  5. Introduced a new type of vapor barrier i.e. IWR 701 to replace mastics and which now is an accepted and specified type for many major Cold insulation projects.
  6. Was granted a patent EP 1 781 982 B1 for an innovative full containment cold insulation atmospheric storage tank based upon a fully sprayed insulation system. This system is built up with a very fast curing IWR Cryocoat HR polymer coating as vapor barrier, sprayed poly-urethane foam as the insulant and a newly developed product under the name of IWR Cryocoat HR1 as secondary barrier for the thermal corner protection and possibly as primary barrier rendering the inner tank as unnecessary.
